Some Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP) and Extended Health Benefits programs will only recognize Counsellors, while others will recognize either a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or a Counsellor. Check with your providers to see which professions are covered or reimbursable under your plans.

Melissa Finger has grown up in Prince George and has a Masters Degree in Educational Counselling and a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with BCACC. Melissa has 12 years of counselling experience working as a Child, Youth and Family Therapist. She also trained in couples work during her Masters Degree and enjoys couple and family work. Melissa has experience working with conflict and family dynamics, anxiety, depression, suicide, mood disorders, and trauma/abuse. She is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (IPT-A), Early Psychosis Intervention, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Vicky is a proud Northerner, having close to two decades worth of work experience in both the mental health and addictions fields. As a lifelong learner, Vicky has been trained in the use of EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization Therapy) and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Vicky recognizes her privilege as a white, English-speaking cisgender woman and provides all therapy from a Trauma Informed perspective, keeping in mind that everyone comes with their own narrative and strengths. Vicky’s undergraduate BSW was with a First Nations’ Specialization and she is honoured to be a Certified Indigenous Addictions Specialist (Level III). Alongside of Vicky’s vast work experience and education, she also has a wealth of personal experience as a griever and trauma survivor.
